Gebr. Opstal Transporten built a thriving transport company in record time
What started with two trucks grew in two years into a versatile transport company running daily trips to and from the market in Paris.
Starting with two trucks
Gebr. Opstal Transporten was founded in 2016. One of the brothers who started the company is John, a former driver and planner for various other transport firms. It all began with a remark from his brother, who was no longer enjoying his job as a driver at the time. John’s first reaction was simple: he would buy a truck so his brother could drive it. Their younger brother liked the idea too, and so they started out with two trucks.
Growth of 600 percent
By now the sixth truck is on the road, a growth of 600 percent, John says jokingly. They began with charter transport and drove mainly for other transport companies. Since then many services have been added, such as conditioned transport, container transport, warehousing and their Rungis Road Express. With that service they drive daily to and from the market in Paris, carrying conditioned loads of vegetables, fruit, flowers and plants among others.
The customer as added value
It is the dream of the Opstal brothers to expand Rungis Road Express even further. They hope their customers appreciate everything they do for them, and they see that as their great strength. According to John, they set themselves apart precisely in customer contact. With them the customer truly enjoys added value, and they always make it clear that the customer matters. After all, it is never a given that someone chooses to be your customer.
Passion every day
Every day John is busy with management and with planning, the best part of his job. It is all or nothing, but that is exactly what makes his work so challenging. It is always exciting and not just moving goods from A to B, but above all finding solutions for the customer and thinking along with them. As entrepreneurs they essentially have no limits, and the great thing about the trade is that they can do what they themselves believe is right. In that way they follow their passion.
Proud of the whole team
John’s goal is to form a solid foundation for everyone around him. He is proud that together with everyone, including the drivers, they have built such a fine company in such a short time. That shared commitment is, for him, the bedrock beneath the company’s rapid growth.
