Key terms explained

The most important transport and TMS terms, clearly explained.

TMS (Transport Management System)

Software that transport companies use to plan trips, track shipments and manage orders, documents and invoicing. A TMS brings the entire transport process together in one place.

OpenTMS

The cloud-based, open transport management system from FiLogic: accessible (free to start), open through an API and always on the latest version.

Open API

An open programming interface that lets you connect OpenTMS to other systems, such as your ERP, on-board computer or fuel cards, without vendor lock-in.

Cloud TMS (SaaS)

A TMS that runs entirely in the cloud. You work through the browser, without local installation, and receive automatic updates.

eCMR

The digital version of the CMR consignment note. With eCMR you record the freight and the delivery digitally, without paper.

FMS / on-board computer

A fleet management system or on-board computer in the vehicle. Through an integration with OpenTMS you share trip and location data automatically.

Trip planning and route optimisation

Smartly arranging and optimising trips so that you drive fewer kilometres, deliver on time and save costs.

ERP integration

A connection between OpenTMS and your ERP or administration system, so that orders, customers and invoices stay automatically in sync.
