From Gramsbergen, right by the German border, Jaks Trucking handles refrigerated and frozen transport between the German ports and the Benelux, supported by OpenTMS for the past six months.

A central location at the border

Jaks Trucking is a transport company from Gramsbergen, founded in 2006 by Manita Spijkers together with her husband. Because their depot lies right by the German border, they can easily handle transport to and from the ports of Skandinaviankai Travemünde and Seelandkai Lübeck, without drivers first having to cross the whole of the Netherlands. If a driver has driven all night, for example by uncoupling and coupling a trailer at the quay, a colleague takes the vehicle over and goes to unload in the Netherlands, Belgium, France, or Germany, while the first driver takes a rest. Partly thanks to the central location, this works very efficiently.

Achieving a high return

They run twelve vehicles and have all kinds of different trucks, deploying them depending on the load, mainly refrigerated and frozen transport. They carry flowers, plants, fruit, vegetables, frozen fries or meals, meat, and cheese, essentially anything. Once the trailers are loaded again in the Netherlands or Belgium, they drive back to the quay, couple up a new trailer from one of their Finnish customers, and unload it in the Benelux. That completes the circle. Because they are located in the east, it is also a practical route, and they cover many kilometres from which they achieve a good return.

Entrepreneurship is always a challenge

Manita’s day looks different every time. She often starts by reading the email, checks the planning, the administration, or the invoices, and sometimes drives a truck out herself. In fact she does a bit of everything within Jaks Trucking. Together they have built a fine team of employees and customers and work very well together. The wonderful thing about entrepreneurship is that it always remains a challenge, and Manita is proud of what they have achieved over the past years and of how well things are going.

Quality comes first

Quality costs money but it pays for itself. By that Manita means they may not be the cheapest, but they always deliver the highest quality. And that always pays off. For example, they never have any damage to their loads. Their service to customers is fast and tidy, and they receive that back as positive feedback too, which is nice to hear.

Moving forward together with OpenTMS

By now Jaks Trucking has been working with the OpenTMS from FiLogic for six months. Previously they kept everything in spreadsheets and a separate accounting program. They keep growing, and at a certain point those systems were no longer adequate, they could not act quickly and went looking for a suitable system. Through a colleague they soon arrived at FiLogic, because large systems with full on-board computers do not suit their business. At the moment they use only a small part of what the system has to offer, mainly for invoicing, and as a result they now have far more control over their invoicing. Together with FiLogic they are still looking at which features they can add to get the most out of OpenTMS.
